Youth and Children’s Services
Educational Services
The Educational Services are responsible for day care, basic education, adult education, the library service, leisure services and public transport. The facilities are developed with the objective of providing the citizens with economical, high-quality services in mind, and the department works actively in collaboration with other municipalities in the area. The objectives of the services are defined yearly and the services are developed with input from both inside and outside the department.
The services for children include early childhood education, morning and afternoon activities, basic education, child welfare services, and youth work.
Early childhood education
In Kaavi, day care services are organised both in day care centres and in the homes of private childminders. There are currently four childminders in Kaavi who work in their own homes. In accordance with the Childcare Act, a placement in day care will be provided within four months of applying or in two weeks if the need for care has been unplanned (e.g. the parent suddenly becoming employed). Applications for day care should be delivered to the offices of the director of day care services.
Early childhood education also includes preschool education, which is organised at the school in the Kaavi town centre.
Morning and afternoon activities
Kaavi provides morning and afternoon activities for pupils in grades 1-2 and to pupils in other grades who have received a decision on additional support, in accordance with the Basic Education Act. Parents of pupils are notified well in advance before each semester about the activities and on how to apply. You can also apply for the activities mid-semester with a written application, if places are available. The organisers can be reached by email at: apip.kk @ kaavi.fi
